Warning: This is a rant

So it’s been a minute.

To recap some of the things that have happened over the last couple of weeks:

  • Went to chapel hill x 2

  • Tori got a new (wonderful) dog named Skylar and she is an absolute bean who deserves all of the love

  • Drama on dad’s side of the family

  • Patients at work are angry at everyone

  • Got an interview with CMC Main ED

So what is there to rant about, you ask?

Oh.

Believe me.

I do not want to rant about it but it’s a statement I have made far too much as of recently.

Personally, I like to stay out of the drama. Drama = stress, stress = more stress (which I already have enough of). Because I like to stay as far away as I can from outside drama, it likes to find me.

Rant pt 1

Can we talk about how it feels like there’s a large portion of the population right now that has regressed from adulthood? It’s something that I have noticed but it’s gotten 10x worse as of recently. I had a patient the other day who was yelling at staff and when security told them to not speak to staff that way, the patient responded with, “I can talk to them however I want to.” Statements like that remind me how there is such a significant portion of the population in the US that forgets that you cannot treat people like garbage and expect good treatment. It goes back to the golden rule of elementary school: treat people how you would like to be treated.

AND YET.

It feels like there needs to be a ted talk on reteaching the golden rule to adults. I do my absolute best to treat everyone with the utmost respect that I can. These days, it’s getting harder to listen to people tell me how much of a piece of trash my colleagues and I are but then be expected to not take it personally and take care of them. I am not your slave and you are not helpless, if you can yell at staff, you have a good enough airway, you’re breathing fine, and it seems that your circulation is fine so, you are more than welcome to find other care should you wish to do that.

LET’S MOVE ON TO PT 2

Another thing I don’t understand is how we have lost the ability to have civil disagreements with each other. If the disagreement does not resolve, you go your separate ways and never talk again. That sounds really simple to me.

The drama on my dad’s side could be solved really easily: either have a diplomatic conversation that ends with the two parties receiving their cut of whatever they are fighting over and go their separate ways, or

  1. challenge each other to a duel

  2. establish who your second is

  3. have the seconds attempt to negotiate peace for the two parties

  4. get some pistols and hire a doctor to help if needed

  5. Set the time of the duel at some point before sunrise

  6. leave a note for your family and progeny

  7. should probably pray a little and confess your sins before your potential death.

  8. You have one more chance to negotiate

  9. Look each other in the eye, aim no higher, summon all the courage required, then count

*see “The Ten Duel Commandments” by Lin-Manuel Miranda from Hamilton.

But seriously, I think dueling would be more civil than just arguing about nonsense. When the argument has no purpose and neither party is going to feel good when it ends, is there a reason to not just lay it to rest. With a duel, there’s at least a little honor in death.

I don’t know, I think I am just tired and stressed, which makes me less willing to deal with BULLSHIT.

Sorry for the rant,

I am in a “tell everyone to fuck off until I am done with school” kind of mood, so I am getting a little feisty as of late.

Anyways,

Hope you all are enjoying life

until next time,

Jonathan
