So what’s the deal with the Emergency Department?
So I read a lot on Reddit.
Recently I have been replying to people about different subjects in regards to the emergency department and the people involved.
*as a disclaimer, take what I say with a grain of salt since I am only 21 years old and have a year of experience.
Here are some things that maybe aren’t shared too much:
First and foremost, yes the people that work in the ED are there to help people of all different backgrounds for all different reasons. This does not mean that we are not human and do not deserve to be treated with the same respect that we treat you with.
You would have to drag my unconscious body out of a ditch for me to consider the ED as my first option. A lot of people show up to the ED for complaints that most parents that I knew growing up would be like, “oh, that sucks.” If you have a stomach bug, you’re gonna vomit. Occasionally though, we do have people who come in with simple complaints that have a far more complex diagnosis than expected, so… keep coming because you never know.
we are all tired. We have been working our asses off and it’s only going to get worse from the looks of it (hopefully, I’m wrong). COVID and everything else is killing us but we are trying.
Most importantly. We want to help. Everyone that comes to the emergency department (or at least most) wants to perform at their best at all times and do something more than pass meds. The ED is not easy, it’s always throwing something different at you. That’s what makes it the Emergency Department.
Well. Them’s my thoughts.
let me know what you think.
